mvMonica Volz, R.N., M.S.N. is a clinical nurse specialized since 2003 in the surgical treatment of patients with movement disorders. Ms. Volz is experienced in the evaluation, care and programming of patients who have deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy for movement disorders. She educates nurses and doctors nationwide on DBS programming.

Sarah Wang, Ph.D., CCRP is the Clinical Research Manager/Research specialist who manages clinical research projects for our group.
Dr. Wang received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2001, majoring in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Dartmouth College in 2009, with specific focuses in auditory perceptual learning, habituation effect of the vestibular system, and spatial learning & memory.

She subsequently worked as a lab manager and research specialist at MIT Sloan School of Management and MIT Neuroeconomics Center, supporting research in cognitive sciences, organizational behavior, decision-making behavior, management, economics, marketing, engineering, psychology, and medical sciences. In 2013 she joined the team of researchers and clinicians at the UCSF Movement Disorder and Neuromodulation Center, as well as the team at the San Francisco VA Medical Center: The Veterans Health Research Institute (NCIRE).

In addition to managing the team of research staff at MDNC, Dr. Wang also manages and conducts observational, genetic, and clinical research studies involving surgical, device, and drug treatments for patients with Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, essential tremor, and other neurological disorders. Her primary focuses are regulatory & administrative oversight, data management, data reporting, and financial management of research studies including interventional and outcome studies, testing of investigational medical devices, industry-sponsored studies, investigator-initiated studies, and government-sponsored clinical research projects.
